American Dagger Moth
Acronicta americana

The adult is a nocturnal moth found around woodlands, parks, and suburban areas where its larval host trees grow. It does not chew leaves like the caterpillar; adults mainly focus on flying, finding mates, and sometimes visiting lights at night. Its gray, black-marked wings help it rest unnoticed on bark during the day. The species is named for the dark dagger-like marks on the forewings.
