Currant Aphid
Cryptomyzus ribis

The adult currant aphid is a tiny sap-feeding insect found on currants and alternate herbaceous host plants, often tucked beneath leaves or near tender shoots. It uses piercing-sucking mouthparts to draw plant sap and may cause curling or distortion of leaves while excreting sweet honeydew. Adults can be wingless or winged depending on season and crowding, with winged forms dispersing to new host plants. A notable feature is its rapid parthenogenetic reproduction during much of the growing season, allowing colonies to build quickly.
