Candy-striped Spider
Enoplognatha ovata

A small comb-footed spider found among shrubs, tall herbs, hedgerows, and garden vegetation across much of Europe and North America. It hunts small insects in loose silk retreats and tangles, using a quick bite and venom to subdue prey. Its abdomen can be plain pale, marked with red stripes, or patterned with a darker central band, making individuals look strikingly different. Females often guard a bluish egg sac curled inside a folded leaf.
