Scarlet and Black Froghopper
Cercopis vulnerata

The adult is found in meadows, woodland edges, hedgerows, and grassy places where it rests on stems and low vegetation. It feeds on plant sap with piercing mouthparts and escapes danger with a strong springing jump, often followed by short flight. Its bright scarlet-and-black pattern acts as a warning display to predators that it may be unpalatable. A notable fact is that froghoppers are among the champion jumpers of the insect world relative to body size.
