Blue-tailed Damselfly
Ischnura elegans

The blue-tailed damselfly is a slender, bright-eyed insect usually found around ponds, canals, ditches, and slow rivers with plenty of waterside plants. Adults are agile daytime hunters, snatching tiny flies and midges from vegetation or in short aerial pursuits. They often perch low on reeds with wings folded along the body, and males are known for the vivid blue segment near the tip of the abdomen. Its aquatic young live underwater as predatory nymphs before climbing out to emerge as flying adults.
