Wood Frog
Boreorana sylvatica

Wood Frogs live in moist forests, leaf litter, and temporary woodland pools across much of northern North America. Adults feed on small invertebrates such as insects, spiders, worms, and slugs, using quick movements and a sticky tongue. In early spring they gather at vernal pools, where males give duck-like calls before eggs are laid in shallow water. A notable survival trait is their ability to tolerate partial freezing during winter dormancy.
