Coho Salmon
Oncorhynchus kisutch

Coho salmon are cold-water fish of the North Pacific, spawning in gravel-bottomed streams and feeding in lakes, rivers, estuaries, and the open ocean. Adults are active predators, eating insects, small fish, squid, and crustaceans as they grow at sea. During spawning migrations they stop feeding, push upstream with powerful bursts of swimming, and males develop a hooked jaw called a kype. A notable feature of the species is its dramatic color change, with ocean-bright silver bodies turning red along the sides during breeding season.
