Delicate Cycnia Moth
Cycnia tenera
The adult is a pale tiger moth of meadows, old fields, and edges where dogbane and milkweed grow. It flies mostly at night, drinks little if at all, and focuses on finding mates and laying eggs on suitable host plants. Its body retains chemical protection from the larval diet, making it distasteful to many predators. A notable defense is its ultrasonic clicking, which can warn or confuse hunting bats.
