Common Kingfisher
Alcedo atthis

A small riverbank bird found along clear streams, lakes, canals, and slow-moving rivers across Eurasia. It hunts by watching from a low perch, then plunging into the water to seize small fish and aquatic invertebrates with its long bill. Common kingfishers are fast, precise fliers that defend feeding stretches of water aggressively. Despite their bright blue and orange plumage, they can be surprisingly hard to spot until they flash past at speed.
