Yellow Garden Spider
Argiope aurantia

Yellow garden spiders live in sunny fields, gardens, and edges of woodlands where tall plants support large orb webs. They wait in the web for flying insects such as flies, bees, wasps, and grasshoppers, then rush in to bite and wrap captured prey in silk. Their bold yellow-and-black abdomen warns many predators, while the zigzag silk band in the web may help with visibility or prey attraction. Females are much larger than males, but both are venomous predators with venom mainly used to subdue small prey.
