Crotch's Bumble Bee Pupa
Bombus crotchii (pupa)

The pupa rests inside a silk cocoon within the brood cell, usually in the same dry, hidden nest environment used by the colony. It does not feed or forage, and its best defense is remaining sealed away while its adult body forms. Wings, legs, eyes, and the striped bumble bee body develop during this quiet stage. This stage is notable because the insect is alive and transforming, but largely immobile and unable to sting or fly.
