Slender Skimmer
Orthetrum sabina
The adult slender skimmer is a slim dragonfly often seen around ponds, canals, rice fields, and open wetlands in warm regions. It hunts from the air, catching mosquitoes, flies, and other small insects with quick turns and precise midair grabs. Males commonly perch on twigs or reeds near water and make short patrol flights over their territory. Its greenish-yellow thorax with dark markings and narrow abdomen make it one of the more easily recognized Orthetrum dragonflies.
