American Nursery Web Spider
Pisaurina mira

This slender hunting spider lives in meadows, shrublands, woodland edges, and tall vegetation across much of eastern North America. Rather than using a web to trap prey, it waits on leaves and stems, then rushes insects and other small arthropods with a venomous bite. Females are notable for carrying the egg sac in their jaws and later building a tent-like nursery web to guard the spiderlings. Its brown-and-tan pattern helps it disappear against dry stems, bark, and leaf litter.
