Planthopper
Prokelisia marginata

Prokelisia marginata is a tiny planthopper of North American salt marshes, especially stands of smooth cordgrass where it feeds on plant sap. It moves by walking along stems, then springing away with powerful hind legs when disturbed, and some adults develop full wings for dispersal. Its diet is almost entirely cordgrass fluids drawn through piercing mouthparts. A notable fact is that this species is often used in ecological studies because its numbers respond strongly to marsh plant condition and habitat fragmentation.
