Asian Small-clawed Otter
Aonyx cinereus
The adult Asian small-clawed otter lives around freshwater wetlands, mangrove creeks, streams, and flooded fields across South and Southeast Asia. It is an active, agile swimmer that often hunts by touch, probing mud and stones for crabs, snails, fish, frogs, and other small aquatic prey. Adults use sharp teeth to crack shells and nimble paws to handle food with unusual precision. This is the smallest otter species in the world, with reduced claws that make its forepaws especially dexterous.
