European Minnow
Phoxinus phoxinus

Adults inhabit cool, clear streams, rivers, and lakes, often staying over gravelly bottoms in moving water. They are active little fish that pick at insect larvae, small crustaceans, algae, and other fine food items. Their speed and sharp turns help them evade larger fish and birds. During the breeding season, males can develop brighter colours and small breeding tubercles on the head.
