Common Greenback Frog

Hylarana erythraea

Common Greenback Frog

The adult is a slender green frog of ponds, marshes, canals, flooded fields, and other open wetlands across much of Southeast Asia. It hunts insects and other small invertebrates from vegetation or the water’s edge, using sudden jumps and a quick tongue strike. Adults are strong swimmers and often escape danger by diving into water or hiding among aquatic plants. Males call from wet places during the breeding season, and eggs develop into free-swimming tadpoles.
