Black Blow Fly
Phormia regina

The adult black blow fly is a shiny blue-black fly found around carrion, dung, flowers, and human settlements. It flies readily between food and egg-laying sites, feeding on liquids with sponging mouthparts rather than biting. Adults are important pollinators and decomposers, but are best known for rapidly locating carcasses. Their early arrival on remains makes them a classic species in forensic entomology.
