Fever Fly
Dilophus febrilis

The adult is a dark, long-legged fly often seen in spring around hedgerows, grassland, gardens, and woodland edges. It feeds lightly on nectar and other plant fluids, while much of its brief adult life is spent finding a mate. Males are noticeable for their dangling legs and slow, hovering flight over vegetation. The species is named for its regular appearance around St. Mark's Day in late April.
