European Wildcat
Felis silvestris

The European wildcat lives in forests, scrubland, and rough grassland across parts of Europe, favoring areas with dense cover and little disturbance. It is mostly solitary and crepuscular to nocturnal, stalking prey quietly before making a short rush or pounce. Its diet is dominated by small mammals such as mice, voles, and rabbits, with birds, reptiles, and insects taken when available. Unlike domestic cats, it has a thick, blunt-ended tail with bold dark rings, a useful field mark for identification.
