Common Laceweaver
Trochosa ruricola

An adult Common Laceweaver is a small, mottled wolf spider found running over soil, grass tussocks, leaf litter, and under stones in open or disturbed habitats. It hunts actively at ground level, taking insects and other small arthropods with a fast rush and venomous fang bite instead of relying on a prey-catching web. Its brown patterning helps it blend into dead leaves and bare earth while it waits or moves between cover. Females are notable for carrying a round egg sac attached to the spinnerets and later guarding newly hatched young.
