Pied-billed Grebe
Podilymbus podiceps

A compact diving bird of freshwater marshes, ponds, and slow rivers across the Americas. It spends most of its time on water, diving after fish, crustaceans, insects, and other small aquatic prey. Rather than taking flight when threatened, it often sinks low into the water or slips beneath the surface. Its thick, pale bill with a dark band in breeding season gives the species its name.
