Ornate Shield Bug
Eurydema ornata

Adults are small shield-shaped true bugs found on wild and cultivated members of the cabbage family across warm, open habitats such as meadows, field edges, and vegetable plots. They use a piercing beak to feed on plant sap, especially from flowers and developing seeds. Their vivid red-and-black pattern is aposematic, advertising an unpleasant chemical defence to birds and other predators. Unlike the nymphs, adults have fully developed wings and can fly between host plants.
