Onion Thrips
Thrips tabaci

A tiny, slender thrips often found tucked inside onion leaves, flowers, and other protected parts of crop plants. It feeds by rasping plant tissue and sucking up the released juices, leaving silvery scars and black specks of waste. Adults can disperse with their narrow, fringed wings, though they are weak fliers and often ride the wind. A notable pest of onions and many vegetables, it can reproduce rapidly and may spread plant viruses such as Iris yellow spot virus.
