Biting Midge
Culicoides furens

The adult is a minute flying insect of coastal marshes, mangroves, and damp vegetation, most active in humid, calm air. Females take blood meals from birds and mammals to produce eggs, while males feed mainly on nectar and other plant sugars. Its tiny size lets it pass through many ordinary screens, which is why biting midges are often called no-see-ums. The bite can feel surprisingly sharp for such a small fly.
