Smooth-coated Otter
Lutrogale perspicillata
Adult smooth-coated otters live along rivers, lakes, mangroves, marshes, and estuaries across South and Southeast Asia. They are active swimmers that hunt fish, frogs, crustaceans, and other small aquatic animals, using sensitive whiskers and quick underwater turns. On land they rest in bank dens, scent-mark territories, and communicate with whistles, chirps, and growls. One notable fact is their unusually smooth, short coat, which reduces drag while swimming.
