Slender Banana Slug
Ariolimax dolichophallus

A forest-dwelling slug of the coastal Pacific Northwest, found in cool, damp leaf litter, under logs, and among mosses. It feeds mainly on fungi, decaying plant material, algae, and tender vegetation, helping recycle nutrients through the forest floor. Slow-moving and soft-bodied, it relies on moisture, hiding cover, and copious sticky mucus rather than speed. One notable feature is the species name, which refers to its unusually long reproductive anatomy compared with related banana slugs.
