Chipping Sparrow
Spizella passerina

The adult Chipping Sparrow lives in open woods, parks, gardens, and brushy field edges across much of North America. It forages mainly on the ground for grass seeds, weed seeds, and small insects, hopping quickly between bits of cover. Males sing a steady dry trill from exposed perches during the breeding season. Its bright rufous cap and crisp facial stripes make it one of the more recognizable small sparrows.
