Chinese Mantis
Tenodera sinensis

Adult Chinese mantises inhabit fields, meadows, gardens, and woodland edges with plenty of tall vegetation for concealment. They are ambush predators that eat flies, moths, crickets, and other arthropods, occasionally taking small vertebrates when the chance arises. Adults have long wings and the females grow especially large-bodied, though they still rely more on stillness than pursuit. A notable defensive display spreads the forelegs and wings to make the insect look larger when threatened.
