Southern White-breasted Hedgehog
Erinaceus concolor

The Southern White-breasted Hedgehog inhabits grasslands, scrub, gardens, orchards, and woodland edges across southeastern Europe and western Asia. It is mostly nocturnal and solitary, roaming for beetles, worms, snails, other small animals, and occasional plant matter. When threatened, it curls into a tight spiny ball rather than trying to outrun danger. Unlike many close relatives, it often keeps a nest rather than digging a full burrow, and it may hibernate during colder parts of its range.
