Herald Moth
Scoliopteryx libatrix

The Herald Moth is found in woodlands, gardens, hedgerows, and caves or cellars where adults often overwinter. It flies mainly at dusk and night, feeding on nectar, tree sap, and overripe fruit rather than hunting. Its jagged-edged orange-brown wings help it resemble a dead leaf when resting in dark shelters. A notable fact is that overwintered adults may appear very early in the year, sometimes before many other moths are active.
