Gypsy Moth Caterpillar
Lymantria dispar (caterpillar)

This hairy larva lives on deciduous trees in forests, orchards, parks, and suburban yards. It feeds on leaves, especially oaks, and older caterpillars often hide in bark crevices by day before climbing out to feed at night. Its long bristles help deter predators and can irritate human skin on contact. Heavy outbreaks can strip foliage from entire trees before the caterpillars pupate.
