Fork-tailed Bush Katydid
Scudderia furcata

An adult fork-tailed bush katydid inhabits bushes, tall herbs, and forest margins, especially where broad green leaves provide cover. It is mostly nocturnal, feeding on leaves and other soft plant parts while relying on camouflage during the day. Adults can make short flights and males produce rasping songs by rubbing their wings. The forked structures at the tip of the male abdomen give the species its common name and help distinguish it from similar bush katydids.
