Japanese Beetle
Popillia japonica

A small metallic scarab beetle found on leaves, flowers, and fruit in sunny gardens, fields, and forest edges. Adults feed by chewing plant tissue and often leave a lace-like skeleton of veins behind. They can fly between host plants, though their hard wing covers and compact body make them more sturdy than graceful. A notable field mark is the row of pale hair tufts along the sides of the abdomen.
