Tri-colored Bumblebee

Bombus ternarius

Tri-colored Bumblebee

The adult Tri-colored Bumblebee is a northern and temperate meadow bee often found in fields, gardens, forest edges, and berry patches. It flies from flower to flower feeding on nectar while collecting pollen to provision the nest. Females defend themselves with a venomous sting, but they are mainly important pollinators rather than aggressive animals. Its bold black, yellow, and orange banding makes it one of the more recognizable North American bumblebees.
