Speckled Beauty Moth
Hypomecis punctinalis
A nocturnal moth of woods, scrub, hedgerows, and gardens, where it rests by day on bark and flies after dusk. Adults are mottled grey-brown, helping them disappear against tree trunks and lichen-covered surfaces. They seek mates at night and may visit flowers or other sugar sources while active. Its broad wings and speckled pattern make it both a capable flier and a well-camouflaged resting insect.
