Trinidad Grass Tubeworm Moth
Acrolophus popeanella

A small Caribbean moth known from Trinidad, associated with grassy or low vegetation habitats where its larvae live concealed in silken tubes among plant material. Adults are nocturnal and rely on muted brownish coloration to rest unnoticed by day, feeding little or not at all compared with the growing larval stage. Like other tubeworm moths, its caterpillars chew plant matter and shelter in tubular cases or webbing near their food. The species is part of the family Acrolophidae, a group whose males often have distinctive hairy head structures.
