Song Sparrow Nestling
Melospiza melodia (nestling)

A Song Sparrow Nestling stays low in a cup-shaped nest hidden in grasses, shrubs, or dense wetland-edge vegetation. It is mostly helpless, with sparse down and eyes closed at first, relying on parents to bring soft insects and other small invertebrates. Its main behaviour is gaping and giving thin begging calls when it senses an adult nearby. The speckled young grow quickly, often leaving the nest less than two weeks after hatching.
