Eyed Brown
Lethe eurydice

The adult Eyed Brown is a marsh and wet-meadow butterfly often seen flying low through sedges, grasses, and dappled woodland openings. It feeds by sipping nectar and other fluids with a coiled proboscis, while males patrol slowly in search of mates. Its brown wings carry eye-like spots that can distract or startle predators. Unlike the caterpillar, the adult relies on fluttering flight and visual misdirection for escape.
