Dark Fishing Spider
Dolomedes tenebrosus

Dark fishing spiders live in wooded areas of eastern North America, often on tree trunks, rocks, and structures near streams or ponds, though they may wander far from water. They hunt by ambush rather than by trapping prey in a web, feeding on insects and other small arthropods and occasionally taking tiny aquatic prey. Sensitive hairs on the legs detect vibrations through surfaces and across water. A notable trait is the ability to run over the water surface and dive underwater to escape threats.
