Sloe Bug
Dolycoris baccarum

Adult sloe bugs inhabit hedgerows, meadows, gardens, and woodland edges, especially where fruiting shrubs and seed-bearing plants are common. They feed with a piercing rostrum on seeds, fruits, and plant juices, and they can fly between host plants when warm weather allows. When threatened, they release a strong-smelling defensive secretion from scent glands, a classic shieldbug deterrent. One notable fact is that adults overwinter in sheltered places before reappearing in spring to mate and lay eggs.
