The Vestal
Cabera variolaria
The adult Vestal is a small, pale moth marked with fine grey-black speckling and faint cross-lines on the wings. It is found around woodland edges, scrub, hedgerows, heath, and damp places where its larval food plants grow. Adults fly mostly at night, resting flat-winged by day and often coming to light after dark. Its delicate wing pattern breaks up its outline against bark, lichen, and pale leaves.
