Mullein Moth
Shargacucullia verbasci
The adult is a nocturnal grey-brown moth found around grassland, scrub, gardens, and other places close to its larval food plants. It flies at night, visits flowers for nectar, and rests by day with cryptic forewings that blend into bark, soil, and dead stems. Its main defenses are sudden flight, stillness, and camouflage rather than biting or stinging. A notable fact is that the dramatic caterpillar becomes a much plainer moth, trading warning colors for concealment.
