Four-Spotted Leaf Beetle
Clytra laeviuscula

The four-spotted leaf beetle is a small chrysomelid beetle found across much of Europe and parts of western Asia, often around woodland edges, hedgerows, and sunny shrubs. Adults feed mainly on leaves of trees and shrubs such as willow, birch, hawthorn, and oak, while the larvae have an unusual life associated with ant nests. Each larva lives inside a protective case made from its own droppings and plant material, feeding on detritus within or near ant colonies. Its bright reddish-orange wing cases with four dark spots make it easy to recognize despite its tiny size.
