Barn Orb-Weaver Spider
Araneus cavaticus
Adult barn orb-weavers live around barns, porches, bridges, caves, and other sheltered structures where flying insects are common. They build round sticky orb webs, usually hunting at night and resting in a hidden retreat during the day. Prey caught in the web is bitten with venomous fangs and often wrapped in silk before being eaten. This species is famous as the spider associated with the character Charlotte in Charlotte's Web.
