Spring Salamander
Gyrinophilus porphyriticus

Adult spring salamanders live around cold springs, seeps, caves, and forested stream edges, usually staying under rocks, logs, or moss by day. They are mostly nocturnal predators, lunging at earthworms, insects, small crustaceans, and even smaller salamanders. Like other lungless salamanders, they breathe through moist skin and the lining of the mouth rather than lungs. Their salmon-pink to orange body and pale line from eye to nostril are useful field marks.
