Hentz Orb Weaver
Neoscona crucifera

Adult Hentz orb weavers live in gardens, fields, woodland edges, and around buildings, especially where flying insects are common. They build circular orb webs at night or dusk, wait on or near the web, and bite trapped prey such as moths, flies, mosquitoes, and small beetles. Their venom is used for subduing prey rather than threatening people, and bites to humans are uncommon and usually mild. One notable feature is the variable cross-like or leaf-like pattern on the abdomen, which helps the spider blend into bark and vegetation by day.
