Horse Fly
Tabanus bromius

The adult is a fast-flying horse fly of meadows, woodland edges, wetlands, and grazing areas. Females cut the skin of mammals to take blood for egg production, while adults also visit flowers for nectar and other sugars. Its large eyes help it track moving hosts, and its bite is notably painful because the mouthparts slice rather than pierce like a mosquito.
