Fragrant Ambersnail
Oxyloma retusa

The fragrant ambersnail is a small, thin-shelled land snail found in damp marshes, wet meadows, and the edges of ponds and streams. It grazes on algae, fungi, and decaying plant material, moving slowly over saturated vegetation and mud. When threatened, it relies on its shell, mucus, and withdrawal rather than speed or aggression. A notable feature of Oxyloma retusa is its translucent amber shell, which often shows the dark body through it.
