European Fly
Gymnosoma nudifrons

This small tachinid fly is found in warm grasslands, field margins, hedgerows, and flower-rich woodland edges across parts of Europe. Adults fly between blossoms to feed on nectar and pollen, often resting openly on leaves or flower heads in sunny weather. Its larvae are parasitoids of true bugs, developing inside a host after the female places eggs on or near it. A notable feature of Gymnosoma flies is their compact, rounded body, often with a striking orange-red abdomen marked by dark spots.
